Scarborough’s Little Helpers Wrap Up Christmas For Local Kids
Press release published on 7 December 2007 by Scarborough Building Society
Scarborough Building Society is asking local people to help brighten up the festive season for city children by buying an extra gift this Christmas and donating it to the branch’s appeal, in aid of Home-Start, Hull.
And, to kick off the campaign, the Jameson Street branch staff - dressed as a Christmas fairy and Santa’s little elf -brought along £200 worth of toys to the charity’s Christmas party, held this Thursday at Centre 88, Saner Street, Hull.
Branch Manager (elf) James Annetts said: ‘Home-Start is linked to the Society through our Family Saver account, which encourages families to save together throughout the year – a strong message during the expensive festive season.
‘We are pleased to support the charity and really hope that this appeal and the gifts we give will bring smiles to the faces of some local children this Christmas
‘Home-Start is such a worthy cause which supports local families, so I hope that the people of Hull will get behind this campaign and help us gather more presents to hand over.’
Through the Family Saver account, the Society donates £1 for every account opened at the Hull branch to the local branch of Home-Start, one of the UK’s leading family support charities – subject to a minimum donation of £500 per year. This relationship is newly formed in Hull and the branch hopes to organise an ongoing agenda of activities with the charity over the coming year, starting with the Christmas appeal.
Caroline Hutton from Home-Start Hull said: ‘We want to say thanks to Scarborough Building Society for coming along today and getting involved in our Christmas party with such good humour!
‘We know that financial security can be a problem for many of the families we support, so it is good to have Scarborough onboard with us at a local level, reminding people that the festive season needn’t be as hard if they plan ahead.
‘Any presents people donate to our appeal will be gratefully received by the families we support – so that they get the Christmas they deserve.’
Gifts can be handed in to staff at the branch on Jameson Street any time from today until 17 December. For more information about the appeal or our range of savings products, please call the branch on (01482) 227435.
