Additional Cover - Shape your policy to suit your lifestyle

Once you and your adviser have made the choice between Your House and Home Plus, there’s a wide choice of optional cover you can add to your policy.

Expert advice, 24 hours a day

Your Home and Home Plus policyholders can access Club Assistance, our free legal and tax helpline.

  • Legal advice – Club Assistance gives you access to our legal helpline for expert advice on any personal legal problem. It could be a dispute over consumer rights, property, terms of employment, even a dispute with your neighbour or many other legal issues.
  • Tax advice – need advice on tax relief and allowances? Inheritance tax? Capital gains tax? Club Assistance can help you with all of these and many other personal tax problems.

Club Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Advice is limited to the law and practice of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

And even more help

Professional advice is also available through these helplines.

Identity Theft Helpline

If you become a victim of identity theft, or need advice on protecting your identity, our professional advisers are here to help from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. We can provide up-to-date information, including warning signs and prevention tips, and advice on what to do if you become a victim.

Travel insurance

If you travel abroad more than once or twice a year you can save yourself the time and hassle of buying travel insurance each time by adding travel cover onto your home insurance policy. And you’ll probably save money too. You’ll be covered all year round and enjoy the same peace of mind you get with your Norwich Union home insurance.

You can add travel insurance to your policy whenever you want and it includes:

  • cover for your holiday and business trips (up to five business trips per period of insurance) during the year, for a maximum of 60 days per trip. UK holidays are also covered where they include at least two consecutive nights’ stay in pre-booked accommodation;
  • cover for you, your partner and dependent children up to 17 years old, or 23 if in full-time education and living with you;
  • emergency medical expenses, cancellation, abandonment, personal accident, delayed baggage, etc;
  • a choice of worldwide or European cover; and
  • optional Winter Sports cover.

Norwich Union travel insurance also includes round-the-clock help for medical emergencies. Plus, you have access to Norwich Union Travel Assistant – our 24-hour, 365-day helpline service. You can get a wide range of travel advice and information on countries you’re visiting, before you go and while you’re away, from visas to vaccinations. Your insurance adviser can give you more information about adding travel cover to your policy, and a copy of the policy booklet that details the cover in full.

Family legal protection

For just £17.75 per year (that's only around £1.50 per month) you can add legal protection to cover yourself and your family for legal expenses in a wide range of disputes – such as faulty goods, quarrels with your neighbour and
employment issues.

Caravan

This covers your caravan against fire, theft and damage to fixtures and fittings in the UK and most European countries.

Home and Garden section

These three options offer you even more protection for your home, contents and garden:

  • replacement of stolen/damaged plants and re-landscaping your gardens if they’re damaged;
  • home emergency service, in case your heating, plumbing or electricity fails; and
  • sets replacement – if part of a set or a pair of items are stolen or damaged and replacements cannot be found, we’ll supply a whole new set or pair of equal value.

Personal accident

This gives you the peace of mind that if you die as a result of an accident, your family will benefit from the security this cover can offer.

Sports section

If sport is a big part of your life, this cover protects your racquets, sticks, bats and clubs, etc against theft from unattended locked vehicles and accidental damage. Plus, if you can’t use a sports club membership because of injury we’ll cover the membership fees. You’ll also be covered should you die as a result of a sporting injury.
