Home-Start Leeds Hits 21 In Style

Home-Start Leeds, part of the UK's leading family support charity, is celebrating a special anniversary this week – 21 years of offering family support in the city.

And to commemorate the occasion, charitable partner Scarborough Building Society is donating £500 cash towards a big party for the scheme's families and volunteers, plus a couple of very special guests.

Local celebrity Kay Mellor, actress, writer and director of several hit TV shows including ‘Fat Friends’ and ‘Playing the Field’ will be attending the event in her capacity as Patron of Home-Start Leeds.

And to reinforce the significance of the occasion, Home-Start's Founder and Life President Margaret Harrison, CBE, will be opening the party with a few words about her experiences with the national charity.

Ann Pemberton, scheme manager, said: ‘We are so pleased to be celebrating this birthday in such style and company. We are one of the longest running schemes in the country and, with the financial help of Leeds City Council, have managed to help over 3,000 families over the years.

‘It is such a great honour for us to have Margaret and Kay attending the party, but we are most pleased that so many of our volunteers have joined in the celebrations. Without these valuable people, the scheme would not exist so we wanted to say thank you to them for their commitment which touches so many lives.

‘With the help of sponsors like Scarborough Building Society, and as part of the Children Leeds Partnership, we hope to continue helping isolated and marginalised families in the city for at least the next 21 years!’

Scarborough has been involved with Home-Start Leeds for two years now, through its Family Saver account that aims to get the whole family into the savings habit. Home-Start Leeds receives £1 for every account opened at the Leeds branch, in Albion Street, each year – subject to a minimum donation of £500.
