Lincoln Branch

Colourful Competition For Family Savers

Press release published on 1 October 2007 by Scarborough Building Society

Scarborough Building Society is encouraging families to save together for the future with the re-launch of its popular Family Savings account.

And to encourage savers, the Lincoln branch, on Cornhill, is holding a kids colouring competition – open to all children in the local area aged up to 16.

The competition asks entrants to draw a picture of ‘What your family is saving for’, anything from a holiday in the sunshine to a rainy day in the future. Entries will be exclusively displayed on an online wall of fame on Scarborough’s website, and winners from each branch will receive a £30 voucher.

In addition to the competition, Scarborough already donates £1 to Home-Start, the UK’s leading family support charity, for every Family Saver that is opened. This donation will be used by Home-Start for a specific joint community orientated event, bringing local families closer together.

Branch Manager Pam Tutty said: ‘Young families are now facing ever increasing costs for their children’s education and first home deposits – as well as often being caught up today’s spiralling debt culture.

‘We hope that, with its flexible features, this account convinces families that they don’t have to be wealthy to put something by for the future, and that even a few pounds can make a big difference.’

She continued: ‘We believe that our Family Account fits in well with the ethos of Home-Start. Our relationship with Home-Start is now in its second year and we hope that our donation helps to make a difference to families who require support in the local area.’

A representative from Home-Start will be on hand to help Pamela judge the competition, after its closing date of 19 October.

The Family Saver is open to parents, or legal guardians, of children who have a new or existing Children’s Savings Bond or Young Super Saver accounts. Features include easy access with no withdrawal or deposit restrictions; one rate regardless of balance or withdrawal activity; and the account can be opened with as little as £1. The account also offers a traditional passbook, so families can easily keep track of their savings.
