Press release published on 7 April 2008 by Scarborough Building Society

Lincoln youngsters, Natalie O’Brien, 5, Jake Whitlam, 10 and Sophie Brown Hammond, 11, were today awarded the winning prize for their entries in the Home-Start Lincoln Easter Colouring Competition, which was run in association with Scarborough Building Society.

You can view their winning entries by clicking this link.

The competition, which was organised by Home-Start Lincoln, the UK’s leading family support charity, and was split into three age categories, based around the theme of Easter.

The competition was part of the ongoing partnership between the Society and Home-Start, which has seen the Lincoln branch donate £1,200 over the past year, helping to pay for a Christmas party and an ice cream event, as well as the recent colouring competition.

The relationship with Home-Start is one example of the Society’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community commitment. For every Family Saver account opened at the Society’s Lincoln branch, it donates £1 to the charity, with a guaranteed minimum donation of £500 per year.

The Easter colouring competition was judged by members of both Home-Start Lincoln and Scarborough Building Society.

Scarborough Branch Manager, Pamela Tutty, said: ‘These entries stood out from the others because they were fun, bright and captured the spirit of Easter.

‘Our relationship with Home-Start is very important to us and we are really pleased that it has led to a fun event such as this.’

Mandy Sowerby, Manager of Home-Start Lincoln, was also on hand to help with the difficult task of judging the winner.

She said: ‘The level of competition was high, but these entries really stood out for me. This fun event was designed as a great way to get the families we support involved in activities that we run, and to hopefully raise the profile of our charity and the vital support service we offer.‘

The winners of the competition received a gift voucher for a leading toy store and a certificate for their efforts.

A selection of the entries will be displayed on a wall of fame at Scarborough Building Society’s Lincoln branch, on Cornhill. For more information about the Family Saver account, please call 01522 531166. If you would like more information regarding Home-Start, please call 01522 569997.
