Newby Branch
New Charity Partnership With The Rainbow Centre
Press release published on 1 October 2007 by Scarborough Building Society
The Rainbow Centre is an important part of the Scarborough community, and has helped many local families and individuals since it opened nearly 10 years ago.
And to support efforts to keep this vital community support centre going, Scarborough Building Society’s Newby branch has selected this deserving cause as its chosen charity for 2007/8.
This year long partnership will be cemented by an initial donation of £500 – as well as additional input throughout the year in the form of volunteering and additional in-branch fundraising
Andrew Carter, Manager of the Newby branch, based on Coldyhill Lane, said: ‘Myself and my team are pleased to be involved with the Rainbow Centre, as it is such an important resource for many members of the Scarborough community.
‘We have kicked off the relationship with an initial donation and are planning to supplement this through a range of fundraising events over the year.’
John Wells, Chairman of the Rainbow Centre, echoed these sentiments: ‘we always appreciate help from local businesses and people who want to get involved with our fundraising efforts.
‘We hope to use the initial donation towards improvements at the centre, to help more members of the local community take advantage of our facilities.’
The Rainbow Centre offers help and support to the local community, offering services from debt counselling to children’s play groups. Based in the town centre, it is a vital resource for many homeless, vulnerable and unemployed people in the area.
The relationship with the Rainbow Centre is part of Scarborough’s ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR. According to this policy, each of the Society’s branches is allocated an amount of funding each year, to pass on to its chosen local good cause.
The Scarborough Group is also engaged in a number of other community and charitable partnerships with organisations including the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust; as well as working with the North Yorkshire Business Education Partnership (NYBEP) to promote its personal finance education programme in secondary schools across the region.
