Scarborough Wraps Up Christmas For Local Kids

Press release published on 7 December 2007 by Scarborough Building Society

Scarborough Building Society’s branches in Newby and the Town Centre are asking local people to help to brighten up the festive season for a local child by buying an extra gift this Christmas and donating it to the branch’s appeal.

And, to kick off the campaign, each branch has bought £200 worth of toys to add to the pile.

All gifts collected at Newby branch will be donated to The Rainbow Centre, a local community centre. Meanwhile, those collected in the Town Centre branch will go to Sure-Start, a government-backed programme committed to ensuring every child the best start in life through health, education and family support, to be given to local children who will appreciate an extra gift during the festive season.

Andrew Carter, Newby Branch Manager, said: ‘Christmas is such an expensive time for families and we hope that this appeal will bring some smiles to some faces this festive season!

‘The Rainbow Centre is our current charity of the year and we hope that our gifts, and those donated by the public, will help ensure that Scarborough families have the Christmas that they deserve.’

Town Centre Branch Manager, Russell Thompson, continued: ‘We all know that both these charities are worthy causes which support local families, so I hope the people of Scarborough will get behind both branches and help us to collect plenty of presents to hand over in time for Christmas.’

As part of the Society’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, it is engaged in a number of partnerships with local and regional organisations, including the redevelopment of the Rotunda museum in Scarborough and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

Gifts can be handed into the branches on Coldyhill Lane and Westborough any time from today until 17 December. For more information please call the Scarborough or Newby branches on (01723) 360461or 379141.
