Press release published on 21 December 2006 by Scarborough Building Society

A successful Yorkshire businessman with a wide range of experience has joined Scarborough Building Society’s Board.

Neil StothardNeil Stothard, who is currently Group Managing Director of Harrogate-based equipment rental specialist Vp plc, which employs 1,200 people, has joined the Scarborough Group as a Non-Executive Director.

Originally from Hull, the 48-year-old now lives in Harrogate with his wife and two sons.

For the past nine years he has worked for Vp plc, which offers tool hire, fork lift truck rental, shoring and rail maintenance equipment to companies across the UK – as well as supplying the international oil and gas exploration industry with compressed air machinery.

Starting there as Group Finance Director and Company Secretary in 1997, he became Group Managing Director in 2004.

Prior to this, Neil worked in senior positions for a range of other organisations, including London-based independent business travel agent Gray Dawes Group Ltd, where he was Group Finance Director and Company Secretary; and Transport Development Group (TDG) Plc – a large European logistics and distribution business – where he was Divisional Finance Director/Financial Controller.

A qualified chartered accountant and graduate engineer, he brings to Scarborough business expertise and wide ranging financial experience.

Welcoming the appointment, Scarborough Chairman William Worsley said: ‘I am delighted to have Neil on board, with his significant experience of most aspects of successful business management.’

John Carrier, Chief Executive, added: ‘The Scarborough Group is experiencing a period of extensive growth and development and it is vital that we attract people of this calibre as Non-Executive Directors, to provide us with an independent view to support our continued success.’

Neil added: ‘I’m delighted to be joining Scarborough at such an interesting and important time in the Society’s development.

‘I very much look forward to working with the Board in supporting the Executive management team in the delivery of the business’s strategic aims.’

Neil replaces Denise Jagger, who is stepping down from her position of Non-Executive after nine years with the Society.
