Scarborough Bolsters Air Ambulance Campaign
Press release published on 5 December 2006 by Scarborough Building Society
Scarborough Building Society has pledged its support for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) through a donation – given from its Leeds branch by manager Luanne Hood.Mark Wishart’s daughter Robyn was seriously injured in a car accident at the end of September this year. Without the aid of the GNAAS, Robyn might not have survived.
Mr Wishart has since taken up the challenge of raising both funds and awareness for the GNAAS across the region with events that include the well-publicised bike ride from Leeds to the Fulford Interchange, past the scene of the crash, in aid of the charity.
He said: “After what happened to Robyn, I wanted to make everyone aware of the great work that the Great North Air Ambulance Service does. People don’t think about the air ambulance until they are unfortunate enough to need their help.
“I really appreciate all donations given to this very worthy appeal. We were lucky to get Robyn back, and I want to make sure that other families get a second chance to spend more time with their loved ones.”
Leeds branch manager Luanne Hood, who presented Mr Wishart with the cheque said: “The Great North Air Ambulance Service is a great cause and we are happy to help out in whatever way we can. We have also placed a collection tin in the branch for any customers who would like to donate.”
This donation is part of a wider commitment to corporate social responsibility at Scarborough Building Society. It is also engaged in a number of community and charitable partnerships with organisations including the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, as well as the development of a personal finance education programme for secondary schools across the region.
