Pretty In Pink For Charity
Press release published on 8 February 2006 by Scarborough Building Society
Staff at Scarborough Building Society in York will be pretty in pink this Valentine’s Day as they hope to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer – the UK’s leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer.
All staff at the York branch have been invited to take part in the day, paying £1 each for the privilege of dressing in pink. The branch has also been decorated in pink in honour of the occasion, raising the awareness of the charity.
Luanne Hood, Branch Manager said: ““We wanted to mark Valentine’s Day by having some fun but also doing our part for charity. Pink is the colour of the occasion but also of supporting breast cancer charities, a disease which affects over 1.2 million people worldwide each year.
“Breakthrough is committed to fighting the disease through funding research and education, it’s a charity that does so much great work throughout the whole year and it’s a pleasure to support its work.”
The day is just part of a greater programme of corporate social responsibility being rolled out across the society. It is also engaged in a number of partnerships with local community groups, schools and projects such as Saint Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough.
