Scarborough has new branch all wrapped up

Press release published on 9 May 2006 by Scarborough Building Society

Progress is well under way on Scarborough Building Society’s extensive refurbishment project to create a flagship new branch in town.

The Society has taken over the former Burger King takeaway premises, on Westborough, transforming it into a state-of-the-art new financial services centre.

The new branch will replace its York Place site, just around the corner, opening to the public on 30 May – with a Grand Opening scheduled for Saturday, 3 June.

And the Society has a raft of goodies up its sleeve to encourage Scarborough residents to join in its celebrations. Everyone is invited to the Grand Opening, which will run from 9am to 3pm, and include giveaways, children’s face painting, a magician and other family entertainments – as well as free prize draws.

The Scarborough has also created exclusive, limited edition products especially to reward residents of its ‘hometown’. Its regular saver account will pay 8% per annum interest, while its Home Cinema Mortgage comes complete with state-of-the-art TV and surround sound system package. Both products will be available from the new Scarborough Town Centre branch from 30 May.

A major future-themed promotional campaign for the new branch is also gathering pace across town. A giant wrap has just been erected on the front of the new site – displaying the intriguing message The Future’s Coming…03.06.06.

People will also be able to spot the same message on the back of East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) buses from this week. Around 20,000 special Scarborough editions of the Society’s Connect customer magazine have been sent out to Scarborough residents, containing details of what the new branch has to offer – as well as personal invitations to the Grand Opening.

And Scarborough folk are encouraged to be on the look-out for more eye-catching developments over the coming weeks.

Branch Manager Phil Chinery said: ‘We’re all really excited about the new branch, which will give us a much better space and design to enable us to offer our customers the kind of first class service they deserve.

‘We sincerely hope the people of Scarborough and surrounding area will take the opportunity to come along to the Grand Opening event and enjoy the celebrations with us, whether they are currently customers of the Scarborough or not.

‘Alternatively, they are more than welcome to pop into the new branch any time and either browse at their leisure or talk through their financial options with one of our friendly members of staff.’

Chief Executive John Carrier added: ‘We are a growing business and one of Scarborough’s major employers. This relocated branch is all about increasing our presence in the town’s retail heart and improving our facilities to attract more customers to realise the benefits of being a customer of Scarborough Building Society – as well as offering existing customers a much improved financial services environment.

‘In line with this, the promotional campaign leading up to the Grand Opening is aimed at encouraging members of the public to join in our celebrations.

‘Not only are we supporting Scarborough’s renaissance by transforming an empty fast food outlet into a modern financial services centre, but we hope that it will also be of benefit to the local Scarborough community.

‘In line with our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, it will contain a community and member area. Here, people will be able to read all about the Scarborough’s many partnerships with schools and community organisations, pick up a copy of the Society’s Connect member magazine, or even nominate the charity of their choice for support.’
