Scarborough Rewards Local Customers With Home Cinema Mortgage Package

Press release published on 22 May 2006 by Scarborough Building Society

To celebrate the opening of a flagship new branch in its town of origin, Scarborough Building Society is offering customers a Home Cinema Mortgage – exclusively through its new Scarborough Town Centre branch.

The Home Cinema Mortgage features a Sony 40 inch plasma TV and surround sound system worth around £2,500 as part of the deal.

The offer is part of wider moves by the Scarborough to bolster its branch business – with a refurbishment programme under way across the network and an aspiration to add further outlets in the future.

Meanwhile, a special Seaside Saver regular savings account offering 8% – the best rate in town – is also on offer through the new Town Centre branch.

The Scarborough Town Centre branch will open on 30 May, with a Grand Opening scheduled for Saturday, 3 June – featuring family entertainment, giveaways and prize draws.

This state-of-the-art new financial services centre replaces the Scarborough’s existing branch around the corner in York Place.

Head of Marketing Tony Burdin said: ‘As a mutual organisation, adding value to our members is a key priority for the Scarborough.

‘Ongoing investment in the enhancement of our branch network – starting with the new Scarborough Town Centre site – is one way in which we are doing this.

‘Exclusive products such as the ones we have created to celebrate the opening are another – a way of rewarding local customers with something that little bit special.’

Branch Manager Phil Chinery said: ‘We’re all really excited about the new branch, which will give us a much better space and design to enable us to offer our customers the kind of first class service they deserve.

‘We sincerely hope the people of Scarborough and surrounding area will take the opportunity to come along to the Grand Opening event and enjoy the celebrations with us, whether they are currently customers of the Scarborough or not.

‘Alternatively, they are more than welcome to pop into the new branch any time and either browse at their leisure or talk through their financial options with one of our friendly members of staff.’

Chief Executive John Carrier added: ‘We are a growing business and one of Scarborough’s major employers. This relocated branch is all about increasing our presence in the town’s retail heart and improving our facilities to attract more customers to realise the benefits of being a customer of Scarborough Building Society – as well as offering existing customers a much improved financial services environment.

‘In line with this, the promotional campaign leading up to the Grand Opening is aimed at encouraging members of the public to join in our celebrations.

‘Not only are we supporting Scarborough’s renaissance by transforming an empty fast food outlet into a modern financial services centre, but we hope that it will also be of benefit to the local Scarborough community.

‘In line with our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, it will contain a community and member area. Here, people will be able to read all about the Scarborough’s many partnerships with schools and community organisations, pick up a copy of the Society’s Connect member magazine, or even nominate the charity of their choice for support.’

The opening of the re-located town centre branch is being supported by an extensive, future-themed promotional campaign. A giant wrap has been erected on the front of the new site – displaying the intriguing message The Future’s Coming…03.06.06.

People can also spot the same message on the back of East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) buses from this week. Around 20,000 special Scarborough editions of the Society’s Connect customer magazine have been sent out to Scarborough residents, containing details of what the new branch has to offer – as well as personal invitations to the Grand Opening.
