Scarborough Channel Islands Limited Announces New MD

Scarborough Channel Islands Limited (SCIL) has a new man at the helm.

Tony Burdin, former Head of Group Marketing for the Scarborough Building Society Group, has been appointed as Managing Director with effect from today.

With extensive experience of many aspects of financial services, Tony’s ambitious plans for the Guernsey-based Scarborough subsidiary include the launch of innovative new savings products and possible entry into the offshore mortgage market.

‘I see this as a fantastic personal and professional opportunity to take forward a very successful business and drive it forward through the next phase of its evolution, with the help of our very capable staff team on the island,’ said Tony.

‘The offshore marketplace is one which is both dynamic and full of opportunity and I’m keen to pursue new avenues for product and service development which will ensure SCIL retains its place as one of the most attractive providers of offshore financial services.’

Scarborough Chief Executive John Carrier said: ‘The acquisition of SCIL earlier this year marked another major milestone in Scarborough’s clear business strategy of growth and diversification.

‘In his three years as Head of Group Marketing, Tony has played a key role in driving forward our business through product innovation and the successful delivery of important projects such as the launch of our new specialist lending arm Scarborough Specialist Mortgages (SSM) last autumn.

‘Therefore, I’m delighted to announce that he is taking over as MD for our new offshore business, and look forward to the further success I am sure he will deliver in that role.’

Over recent weeks, SCIL has launched a range of attractive savings products – most recently its suite of savings bonds allowing customers the flexibility to fix their rates for either six months, one or two years, at interest rates of up to 6.40%.

Curriculum Vitae – Tony Burdin

• Aged 45, Tony has wide-ranging financial services experience, having worked in various customer-facing and managerial roles during his career;
• Starting out in various branch-based customer service and managerial roles for the former Halifax and Leeds & Holbeck building societies, he became Head of Field Operations for L&H in 1998, responsible for running the entire branch network and intermediary sales team;
• Becoming Head of Marketing and Public Relations for L&H in 2000, he then joined Scarborough as Head of Retail Strategy and later Head of Group Marketing;
• Tony’s managerial roles have seen him successfully undertaking major projects from opening new branches to product range reviews and the launch of a new brand.
• In 2006, he successfully spearheaded the launch of Scarborough’s own specialist lender, Scarborough Specialist Mortgages (SSM);
• Married to Jenny, Tony is a keen walker and is looking forward to exploring the coastal walks of the Channel Islands. However, an avid football fan, continuing to make the most of his Barnsley Football Club season ticket might prove more of a challenge from his new base!
