Opening an account
What do I need to do if I would like to open an account?
Please familiarise yourself with the product features and terms and conditions applicable to the account, before applying.
The majority of our accounts can be opened through Investments Direct. However, some of our accounts are available exclusively through our branch network. Details on how to open an Investments Direct telephone or postal account are below. However, if you would like to open a branch account please find your nearest branch and call in at any time.
Investments Direct (postal & telephone accounts - not ISAs)
To open an account through Investments Direct, please follow these simple steps:
- Please ensure you have read and agreed to the account terms and conditions of your chosen account.
- Complete our savings account application form and select your chosen account from the drop down menu. Complete the required fields and once completed print off the form. Please then sign the application form. (Alternatively, you can print off a blank savings application form for you to complete by hand.)
- Write a cheque, payable to 'Scarborough Building Society/Your Name', for your opening investment amount. Please read these important details about changes in the way you should write your cheque.
- Please gather together any necessary proof of identity documents.
- Post your completed and signed application form, cheque, and proof of identity documents (if applicable) to:
- Investments Direct
- Prospect House
- PO Box 160
- Scarborough
- North Yorkshire
- YO11 3WY
- Alternatively you can call Investment Direct on 0845 634 3760† to open an account.
To open a new ISA
To open a new ISA account the application process above still applies. However, all applications MUST be accompanied by a completed ISA declaration form and you must also read our ISA terms and conditions.
To transfer in an ISA
To transfer an ISA account the application process above still applies. However, all applications MUST be accompanied by a completed ISA declaration form and you must also read our ISA terms and conditions.
The completed ISA transfer form allows us to complete the transfer of your ISA from your current provider to Scarborough Building Society. ISA transfers must consist of either:
- The full current year subscriptions;
- All or part of any previous year subscriptions; or
- The full current year subscriptions and all or part of previous year subscriptions.
Alternative format application forms
If you do not have access to a printer then please call our Pack Request line on 0845 458 4458†, leaving your Name, Address, Postcode and the name of the account pack that you require.
Alternatively you can complete our savings & investments enquiry form and we can arrange to send forms out to you.
Do you require a taxback (R85) form?
If you do not have to pay income tax you may complete form R85, available from the HM Revenue & Customs website. Once you have done this please send it to Investments Direct, Prospect House, PO Box 160, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, YO11 3WY and we will pay you interest without deduction of tax.
Please ask at your nearest branch for this form if you need one. If you have any queries on your tax liability you should get in touch with your Inland Revenue tax office.
