Communities & Environment
Through environmental and cultural initiatives, we demonstrate our commitment to helping to improve the quality of life of people living within our heartland communities.
Living in a pleasant community we can be proud of is everyone's goal.
And because we believe businesses like ours have a responsibility to contribute to that sense of wellbeing, we are working with a range of environmental and cultural organisations to play our part.
We are helping the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT) to maintain and improve inner city and rural sites through cash donations and the help of our volunteers. By helping with litter picking, shrub clearance and planting, we aim to help ensure that magnificent nature reserves such as Burton Riggs, in Scarborough, are maintained and enhanced for current and future generations to enjoy.

We are also considering other ways in which we can contribute to a better environment, such as the introduction of so-called ‘green’ mortgages which help people to achieve greater energy efficiency in their homes.
Shared heritage is a vital component of stable communities, which is why we concentrate a high proportion of our sponsorship and volunteering activities on projects which preserve and promote it.
In Scarborough, we are working with the internationally renowned Rotunda, William Smith Museum of Geology to do just that.
As well as supporting the refurbishment costs of restoring this unique 19th Century building to its former glory, we are collaborating with the Scarborough Museums Trust to deliver educational lectures for young people from across North Yorkshire. These events see children learning all about the fascinating geological features of their so-called ‘Dinosaur Coast’ from some of the country's leading experts.
Workshops for local arts and museums professionals on topics such as successful financial management for not-for-profit organisations also form part of this project, which has been match-funded by the Arts & Business New Partners programme.
Minimising our impact upon the environment is just as important as the proactive activities we engage in, which is why we recycle all paper waste, printer ribbons and drinks cups. Our Prospect House headquarters, in Scarborough, was built to an environmentally friendly design with features such as an energy use management system, and has been given a green bill of health by the Carbon Trust monitoring organisation.
The organisations we currently support with a mixture of volunteering and charitable giving are shown below. Please click each logo or name, or use the main website navigation towards the top left of your screen, for more information.
