"Hello and welcome to Scarborough Building Society's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) site.
Although we have a 160 year heritage at Scarborough, we believe in being a modern, mutual business of today, but with the same degree of commitment and innovation shown by our founders all those years ago. Whilst our business has changed dramatically over time, our values and principles remain the same.
We have become a modern, vibrant, and progressive organisation which has expanded far beyond the original concept of ´just´ a building society.
Our evolution has made us into a complementary group of businesses optimising profitability so as to allow greater investment in our capability for the benefit of our members over the longer term.
The Scarborough Building Society Group is made up of Scarborough Building Society with over 180,000 customers, incorporating nine branches from Middlesbrough in the North and as far South as Nottingham.
The group also comprises Scarborough Mortgage services, which provides end to end mortgage administration for significant international organisations; our mortgage trading company, North Yorkshire Mortgages Ltd (NYM); which also incorporates Scarborough Specialist Mortgages (SSM), which is a brand offering specialist and non-conforming home loans, and Scarborough Channel Islands Limited (SCIL), our offshore deposit-taking subsidiary.
Greater efficiencies and increasing scale are the keys to our success, combined with the growing sophistication of our information systems.
So what does all of this mean?
It means we can return added value to our members in the form of outstanding service, long term good value products and sound financial advice they can trust.
It also means we can share some of our success with the communities in which our members live, through charitable donations and volunteering support.
These attributes are at the heart of our CSR policy, which focuses on four key areas - Products and Members; Communities and Environment, Financial Education and Quality Employment.
